Oil-Control Face Wash
You should choose an oil-control face wash which will suit your skin type. Sometimes oily skins can also be very sensitive, and in those cases you should chose your face wash very carefully. Oil-control face washes normally contain salicylic acid which also helps to treat acne flares.
Apart from that, you can also use face washes containing natural things, like tea tree oil or neem extracts. Wash your face twice daily to remove excess oil and dirt, and to keep your face matte throughout the day.
Exfoliation is another great way of controlling excess oil on face. It is recommended that you choose a mild scrub or exfoliating agent if you have a sensitive oily skin, otherwise you can use any scrubs suitable for your skin type.
You can use a scrub twice or only once a week to wash out the dead cells and the excessive oil from your face. Take a small amount of suitable face wash and wash your face; and then apply the scrub on your face using light and round strokes. Massage the face with the scrub for 2-3 minutes and then wash off with water.
Clay masks are very useful for oily skin. It helps to reduce the shine on the face and also keep the face matte. There are many types of clay masks available in the market, but you should choose the ones which are really effective and has a long term effect.
You should apply the mask on your face only after the application of face wash and scrub as stated above. Apply a generous amount of the mask to cover the entire face, leave it for at least 30 minutes or until the mask dries, and then wash off with normal water.
Mattifying creams are specially made for oily skin and their function is to control the oiliness of the face. These creams work by balancing the oil production in the face.
The cream reduces excessive oil in the T-zone and increases the oil in the cheek area. This mechanism helps to keep the face oil free, without drying it out. You can apply mattifying creams every day to get good results.
Use an Astringent
Astringents are cosmetics which are used to minimize the sebum production from the face. An astringent helps to minimize the size of the skin pores and also closes them. This temporarily prevents the cells from producing excessive sebum.
Take a cotton ball and soak it with water and then dab a little amount of astringent on the cotton ball. Apply this to your face every day to control the shiny and sticky appearance of your face.
