Warm Bath And Steam
Use a humidifier in child’s room while he is sleeping. Always clean the humidifier before use, so that the dust particles accumulated on the humidifier do not spread into the room. Humid air loosens mucus and helps expel it from body. Put the hot shower on, in the bathroom for 5 minutes before taking the kid to bath. Put a few drops of menthol in the water tub and close the doors. Let the kid spent some 15 minutes in the bathroom, this will help clear the nasal passage and relieve the irritation.
Saline Solutions For Nose
Saline solutions are very effective and safe for all kids to be used to cure stuffy nose. It is easily available at all the chemist stores. You can prepare the solution at home with ½ teaspoon of salt, boiled in a glass of water. If prepared at home, do not use it after 24 hours of preparation.
Use a bulb syringe and drop some 2-3 drops into kid’s nose. Saline solution is a good remedy for small kids, who cannot blow their nose to clear mucus. Use it before feeding small babies, in order to ease sucking breast milk.
Vaporizers And Rubs
Vaporizers for babies made out of natural products like oils and eucalyptus can be rubbed on the chest before sleeping. Though, research does not prove the cure, but the cooling sensation gives relief and cooling effect to the nasal passage.
Grapes And Grape Juice
A simple and easy cold can be cured with grapes very efficiently in 2 days. Grapes are good for lungs and are proved to liquefy and expel phlegm from lungs. You can feed the kid with grape juice once in a day.
Honey is an appropriate ingredient used to cure flu and cold. Honey can be used in a variety of ways to introduce to kids. Honey given with the juice of half lime twice a day can work wonders. Lime juice is a store of Vitamin C, and can heal sore areas in body. Honey contains propolis and pollen which has the property to ruin bacteria and virus. Alternatively honey can be used with basil leaf juice and ginger also. While basil leaf works as an anti biotic, ginger has very good anti-inflammatory ingredients. However it is important to note that honey cannot be given to infants below 1 year of age, as it has the tendency to cause infant botulism.
If the child is mature enough to gargle, you can formulate a glass of water with salt and help him gargle 2-3 times in a day. Since salt and warm water can thin mucus, which can easily be ousted from body, this remedy is proven to be effective for all throat and chest related irritations.
Roasted Turmeric Powder For Dry Cough
½ tsp of Turmeric powder can be given with honey 2 times in a day for dry cough. Turmeric has anti septic value that can heal cough. Turmeric can also be given with milk to kids for relief. Keep your child on rest and keep him warm. Remember, that your kid certainly, needs a doctor when he has coughing combined with wheezing or whooping.
