Acne Products: Understanding the Ingredients

Benzoyl Peroxide is very effective in treating Acne, being a natural antibacterial and antiseptic, which reduces bacteria, P. acne. It removes dead cells and drains excess oil, but it can irritate your skin and result in flakiness. Therefore, you should use a moisturizer daily.

• This medicine is best for teens, having oily, resistant skin, and for whom other Acne treatments aren’t strong.

• Avoid it in case your skin is sensitive type which is dry and can easily be irritated. For combination skin types, the Benzoyl Peroxide should be used on the T-zone oilier area, and use a different product for cheeks. As a spot treatment, it will not irritate and dry the skin.

Salicylic Acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid which normalizes the dead skin cells being shed. If these cells are not regularly exfoliated away, they can combine with Sebum and block skin pores, resulting in Acne.

• It is best for dry or sensitive skin needing a gentler treatment or which has undergone excessive drying with Benzoyl Peroxide or other Acne-fighting medicines.

• Avoid it if you are allergic to aspirin, since the chemical compound of this Acid is similar to aspirin.

To know whether the medications are working, you must be patient since results will only be visible after a few weeks. Give the new products a minimum of a month, before you decide it is working or not.

After beginning to use the new product, watch the skin carefully for reactions. If there is redness or irritation, you should give it time to normalize, but discontinue usage if the situation doesn’t improve. Do not change skincare products frequently. Stick to a rhythm after discovering it. Blemishes have a habit of popping up at the same place regularly. Using the Acne product for a week or two cannot give you any results.

When using a skincare product, give it enough time to bring results. If you change the medications frequently, you are likely to harm the skin and the skin texture will be spoilt by these frequent changes because of different ingredients in each of these products.

Exercise care in choosing skin care products and always bear in mind the type of your skin. Choose products which will suit your particular skin type.
