When it comes to skin care, the first things you would want to stay away from are toxins and chemicals. Thus many believe that acids products are hazardous to the skin. It is partially true, as there are some acids that are actually good for the skin. Alpha Hydroxy acids, also known as AHA, are found in fruits. They help to improve the texture of the skin, keep the skin well toned and reduce wrinkles.
Alpha Hydroxy acids are multi functional. They go deep inside the pores and clean the dirt as well as remove the layer of dead skin cells. It is better to use these acids regularly for better results. It should be mentioned that AHAs work like a magic potion for skin conditions, such as pimples and acne, fine lines or wrinkles, freckles and other skin problems. AHAs also moisturize the skin, reduce excess oil and balance skin discoloration.
Before you opt for AHAs, it is better to know your skin type. Those with sensitive skin better go for the mildest AHA, such as polyhydroxy acids. Among all the AHAs, Glycolic is considered to be the best. It is best known for skin rejuvenation. But before you go for any of the acids, you will have to start with a mild dose and let your skin get used to it. Eventually you can increase the dose.
Some have the tendency of expecting results immediately. Remember, everything takes time. When you start using AHAs, give it some time to show its effects on your skin. It will take a while, a month or so perhaps. But the improvement will show for sure.
Now let us look at some of the common Alpha Hydroxy acids and where they can be found.
The most common AHA is Glycolic acid. It is derived from sugarcane. On the other hand, Malic acids can be found in apples and white grapes. These two acids help to exfoliate and reduce excess oil from the skin and reduce wrinkles.
You will get lactic acid from milk. This makes the skin soft and it is also a great exfoliator.
If you are using creams containing AHAs, then makes sure you use a sunscreen or sun block before you go out.
