It’s both easy and hard to forget about your skin. When people are young, beautiful, and wrinkle free, they tend to forget that their skin is there and needs to be taken care of. When people start showing the signs of aging, then they find it hard to believe they never thought about taking care of their skin much earlier.
More people these days are becoming aware that basic skin care needs to start earlier than in their 40s, when wrinkles usually start becoming quite defined. If you wait this long to start proper skin care, the game is no longer about preventing wrinkles, but about treating them.
There are a number of things you can do now, today, to prevent wrinkles and preserve a youthful appearance for as long as possible, in optimal conditions. Be aware of the following precautions now and you’ll be forever grateful to yourself in the future. A few minutes of effort now means staying wrinkle free for years to come.
Cleansing – Not Too Much and Not Too Little
If you don’t clean or moisturize your skin at all, then you risk having clogged pores, excessive dead skin cells, and an overall dull complexion.
If you aggressively swab your face with alcohol-based cleansers, then you risk experiencing dry, irritated skin that may peel or stay reddened for hours, even days. While you think you’re helping your skin, it’ll be obvious to you in the mirror that you aren’t making any progress this way.
What is best for your skin is a balanced, gentle-cleansing regimen. Alcohol-based cleansers should only be used for the oiliest of skin types, and even then, very carefully.
Take your time when choosing new products, and do your research. Select products that are all natural or organic to increase your skin’s chances of reacting positively to the treatment.
Protection from the Elements
Heat provides an easy to remember theme here with skin care: Avoid the sun and avoid very hot water.
Why avoid very hot water? Water that is too hot actually harms the skin, in effect scalding it. Steaming hot showers damage the top layer of skin cells and irritate the skin overall. Stick with warm water to avoid boiling your skin.
The sun’s rays both save us and hurt us. As the ozone layer’s protection decreases, the level of SPF in our sunscreen should increase. Any sunscreen with an SPF less than 30 shouldn’t be bothered with. These sunscreens with higher SPFs may cost a little more, but they’re worth it.
