The saying has been pushed further and into light the observation that some may even start looking like each other. Could there be any reasonable explanation to it? We try to find out.
Well, the saying may have some truth behind it for most of the couples. There are certain theories which suggest so.
The environment and food plays a very important role in making them look similar to each other. This may be applicable on couples who have spent a great amount of time with each other.
We may understand it by understanding that the couple which spends a lot of time with each other eats same food and experience same type of whether conditions may start resembling each other because of the similar environment. If they would live together they are highly likely to each same meal.
The second reason could be the predisposition theory which explains that people tend to choose like minded partners for marriage. The similarity in the personality traits leads them to end up looking alike after staying together for a long time period.
Empathy is still is better way to understand how couples could start resembling each other after years of marriage. The theory suggests that by living together two people tend to imitate each other in terms of expressions. By sharing the same type of expressions they allow the facial muscles to grow in a similar way.
Most of the studies conducted on the question whether or not spouses start resembling each other with time take into consideration only those couples who have been married for 25 years or more. Most of these couples have spent a major portion of their life with their spouse. With the times changing and rise in divorce rate it will be difficult to study more number of couples on this topic in near future.
Nevertheless, the study could also help in finding that if two people, by staying together, could influence each other to such extend.
