For treating pink eye that has been caused by an infection, a warm compress will be very helpful. All you need to do is take a clean cloth and soak it in some warm water. Squeeze out the excess water and clean the eye first, by gently wiping it from the inside i.e near the nose to the outside. Discard used cloth immediately. Take another wet cloth and press it on the clean eye and let it rest. The warm compress will give you relief from the pain and swelling. Do this several times a day and remember to wash hands immediately.


Although, it may sound strange, honey can actually cure pink eye. A drop or two of honey applied directly on the affected eye will help it heal faster. Honey has anti-bacterial properties that kill the infection causing bacteria.


Another way of using honey is by mixing a tablespoon of honey in a cup of lukewarm water. Use this water to wash your eyes at least once a day.


Potatoes help in cleaning the eye as they are natural astringents. Thinly slice a potato and place it over the eyes. Leave for 15-20 minutes. Wash off with cold water.


A mixture of coriander and water helps in healing pink eye faster. It reduces pain, swelling, and the production of mucus. Boil some water and add a handful of dried coriander in it. Let it simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and strain it.


Let the mixture cool. Once it comes to room temperature, use it to clean eyes or as a compress. Do not wash off.

Honey and Milk

Make a mixture of 2 tablespoons of honey with a cup of milk. Use this mixture to clean the affected eye. You can also use this mixture as an eye drop or cold compress. Always remember to discard the used cloth to ensure no further infections.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera soothes the infected eye and stops the swelling and redness. Extract the juice from the aloe plant and put a few drops of it on the affected eye. You can also apply the juice as a cold compress.

Indian Gooseberry

Mix 2 tablespoons of honey in a glass of Indian gooseberry or amla. Indian gooseberry is known to have anti-bacterial properties. Have this juice 2 times a day to get rid of pink eye naturally.

Use tea bags to reduce swelling and to soothe the eye. Soak two tea bags in warm water. Lie down on your back and place the tea bags on your eyes. Leave for 2-3 minutes.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has many anti-bacterial properties that help in healing pink eye faster. Use half a cup of apple cider vinegar with equal amounts of water. Clean the eyes with this concoction regularly.

Fennel Seeds

Fennel helps reduce inflammation and reduce pain. Boil some water and add a tablespoon of fennel seeds. Simmer for another 3-4 minutes and strain the mixture.

Let the mixture cool down to room temperature. Apply this fennel infused water on your eyes using cotton balls.


Salt is an effective remedy to treat pink eye. Boil a cup of water. Remove from heat and add about 2-3 tablespoons of salt. Bring it to a boil again and drop two cotton balls in the boiling salt water. Remove from heat and let it cool till the water comes to a room temperature. Now take out the cotton balls and place them over the eyes. You might feel some stinging but this is only the salt doing its job. Salt has many properties that will kill the infection causing organisms. Remove the cotton balls after 5-10 minutes. Discard the used cotton balls immediately.

We all know that almost all diseases can be treated by a healthy and vegetable-rich diet. To cure pink eye too, you need to have the juices of vegetables as they contain several nutrients and properties that will kill the bacteria and virus that is causing pink eye.

Include the juice of vegetables like tomato, carrots, spinach etc. Have at least 2-3 glasses of these juices ever day to get relieve from pink eye faster.


This remedy will sting a lot but lemon juice is an effective cure for pink eye. Squeeze the juice out of half a lemon. Soak a cotton ball in the juice and apply it gently over the eye. Some of the juice might seep into the eye and sting you. But let it sting for about 2-3 minutes. This will draw out the mucus and help in healing faster. You can also dip a clean finger in the juice and apply the lemon around the eye.
