Tendonitis is a condition in which the tendons of a particular area of the body get irritated and inflamed. This can cause severe pain and lead to a loss of mobility. Tendons are fibrous tissues that attach the muscles to the bones. A tendon injury is serious and can inflict permanent muscular damage if not given due thought and consideration.
Tendonitis occurs due to poor form while exercising, heel spurs, obesity, diabetes etc. It can cause sharp pain and severe swelling in the affected limb. If tendonitis is suspected or diagnosed, make sure you heed to the following steps at home.

Put Up Your Feet Or Rest Your Hands
If either of your limbs has been affected, take immediate rest. Rest will prevent the injury from exacerbating or becoming worse. Rest is essential for tendon and tissue healing.
Avoid moving around and refrain from playing sports or games. Even after you recover, start with sports that do not exert too much pressure on the affected tendon. Yoga and swimming are ideally recommended.
If swelling is not there and you feel only pain and tension, apply heat or a hot water bottle to the affected area. This enhances blood circulation to the injury site thus minimizing the pain and the tenderness.
Place your foot or hand in ice cold water or apply an ice pack on the affected tissue. Ice subsides the swelling and reduces pain. This must be done within the first 24 hours of the injury occurring.
You should ice the tendon periodically to prevent the swelling from recurring. Once the swelling subsides, you can then follow the next treatment modality.
If your wrist or ankle has been affected, applying a compression bandage is a good idea to immobilize that part. Ask a friend to wrap the compression bandage for you. The bandage should not be too tight but snug enough to keep the area immobilized.
Soak your feet in a warm Epsom salt bath. The heat from the water will reduce the pain felt in the foot while the Epsom salts will replace the lost magnesium in the body which occurred due to a ruptured tendon.
Keep the limb elevated at least for the first 24 hours. The first day is crucial for any tendon injury and can pave the way for healing of muscle pull.
Warm olive oil used to massage the feet can give a lot of relief from acute foot tendonitis. Ask an expert masseur to do the massage for you as it will need just the right amount of pressure to give you relief from the pain. Do this at least twice a day for best results.
Hot And Cold Vinegar Wraps
Alternating between hot and cold vinegar wraps is a tried and tested remedy for acute tendonitis. This can be easily followed and practiced at home and is said to work wonders in easing the pain.For very severe injuries, surgery or physiotherapy may be required as prescribed by the doctor.
