Goth Makeup: Dark and Dramatic Makeup
If you love dark, deep and rich colors, you might be interested in giving yourself a unique look using Goth makeup. The first thing to remember is that Goth subculture is all about creativity and expression.
Therefore, there are not many rules, and you can change or improve on the tips given below.
Another thing to note is the Gothic style you wish to emulate. Depending on the style chosen, the colors and designs you choose may vary. Both men and women wear gothic makeup, though when it comes to men the makeup is more subtle than what women customarily sport.
So depending on what you like to do you can try out the following tips to get yourself a facial makeover.
It is important to cleanse, tone and moisturize the skin, before applying any kind of makeup, in order to avoid acne and other skin ailments. Very pale or dark skin is best left as it is, with just a light dusting of powder (glitter powder if you prefer) over the moisturizer. If you have tan or light colored skin apply a coat of cream foundation, and then dust with powder for a matte finish. Goths rarely use blush and Bronzers, but they can be applied minimally if you choose.
Eye makeup is the most important of all Goth makeup. Dark and smoky cat eyes are much favored by Goths. Black liquid eyeliner and mascara is used to add contour to the eyes. Eye shadow of different colors are used, like black, grey, silvery grey, white, blue, green, emerald green, purple, indigo, deep reds, yellow, etc. A mixture of two or more colors can be used.
You can also make your eyes stand out and look more dramatic by adding designs drawn first in eye pencil then in liquid eyeliner. You can use different colors in your designs and be as creative as you like. Rhinestones and glitter can also be used. Fake lashes can be used to accentuate your Goth look. Eyebrows should be darkened and the arch well defined.
When it comes to lipstick and lip liners colors like purple, indigo, black, deep plum, etc, are used. A base coat of lip liner is applied to make the lipstick stay on longer. Piercings may also be used. Make sure your Goth makeup matches with your nail polish/art and apparel.
