A woman may suffer from acne flares during her pregnancy, due to the hormonal imbalance in her body. During pregnancy, the androgenic hormone level in our body rises. Androgenic hormones like progesterone is responsible for oil secretion from the sebaceous glands, and during pregnancy increased level of progesterone produces more oil from the sebaceous glands of our skin.
This excess amount of oil gets collected in the skin pores, which ultimately leads to acne. But you can get rid of the acne flares, once your pregnancy ends. But, in case of some women, the acne flares continue to develop even after the end of their pregnancy.

Women may suffer from body acne during their pregnancy. Apart from this, women may develop pustules, red spots, blackheads, whiteheads and cysts on their skin.

Since, acne during pregnancy predominantly occurs due to hormonal imbalance, it is always advisable that you consult your doctor before trying any skin care products, over the counter medicines or natural treatments.
Although home remedies are natural, but those things contain chemical substances which can increase acne flares. But apart from this, you can consult your doctor to prescribe a daily skin care routine to take care of your acne flares.
Medicines For Acne During Pregnancy
Salicylic acid is a very effective chemical against acne. It can go deep inside the pores of the skin to treat acne. Salicylic acid is an aspirin, which calms the skin and prevents irritation due to acne. Salicylic acid is found in many over the counter topical creams, face washes and toners.
However, doctors restrict the use of salicylic acid containing topical creams during pregnancy, because salicylic acid may lead to various complexities in pregnancy. But, products containing mild amount of salicylic acid like toners, can be used during pregnancy with doctor’s recommendation.
Antibiotics are used to kill bacteria from the acne. Antibiotics are safe during pregnancy; however, you should avoid use of a certain types of antibiotics like oral form of minocycline, tetracycline and doxycycline. These drugs can lead to several problems during pregnancy.
Benzoyl peroxide is another very effective medicine against acne. You can get benzoyl peroxide in many over the counter products. Benzoyl peroxide is safe for pregnant women, but it is recommended that you consult your doctor before the application of any benzoyl peroxide containing substance.
Glycolic acid containing topical creams can also be used during pregnancy. Glycolic acid is absorbed into the skin in a very small amount, and hence, doctors estimate that it will not cause any side effects during pregnancy.
