There are times when you’ve run out of makeup and cannot spare the time to go to your local pharmacy. For emergencies such as these, you can always depend on some of the items in your kitchen, pantry or refrigerator to pull you through.

These items can be used either as a cosmetic substitute or can be mixed with some other items in your makeup kit to produce something new.

Lip Stain
For example, if you’ve run out of that special lipstick that you really like, you can find a substitute in the pantry. Just take a Beet and grate some of it onto a plate. Absorb some of the Beet Juice with a Q-tip and use it as your regular stain. This is guaranteed to last longer than your normal lipstick or stain and will withstand hot liquids such as coffee or tea. When applying the stain you should be careful not to let it touch your teeth however, because a beet juice stain can last a while. Jell-o or Kool-aid can also be used in a pinch. Mix some of the Jell-o powder with a few drops of water and soak a Q-tip in the liquid.

Eye Shadow
A good eye shadow can be made by using a food dye in powder form. If you cannot find that eye shadow that you like, you can mix baby powder with food dye, combining the two ingredients until you get a nice colored shadow. As always, when using makeup around the eyes you should be careful not to get any into the eyes themselves.

Face Powder
A substitute face powder can be made from a simple baby powder. Just put a small amount of baby powder on your powder puff or on a cotton ball. Shake it to remove any excess and apply the puff to your face.

Cheek Powder
A face powder made from items in your kitchen can be useful if you’ve run out of this vital item in your makeup cabinet. Baby powder can again be useful and will get you ready for that special occasion. Take a pinch of eye shadow, mix it with the baby powder and use it as your normal cheek powder. You can also mix some of the grated Beets with Olive Oil, combining it until you get the degree of color that you prefer.
