Neck Pain-Causes and Cure

Neck pain is part and parcel of life. Sedentary jobs, improper seating, fall or injury on the neck, wrong sleeping positions everything could aid neck pain. Usually people neglect these types of pains as these are temporary discomforts. But if the pain persists, then you must dig on to the cause.

Normal neck pains could be cured with mild dose of pain killers or gently pouring hot and cold water simultaneously at the affected area. Mild massaging also gives relief. But if you feel numbness or stiffness caused due to a nerve fracture then do not self medicate. Consult a doctor immediately.

Neck pains could also be the result of stress and strain. Do some stretching exercises daily. Yoga is the best cure for all sorts of ailments. But never try yoga by watching TV or reading books. Get trained from a Yoga master; learn yoga step by step with proper breathing exercises. Physiotherapy is another highly effective treatment, which you can try.

When you are suffering from neck pain, do not perform any heavy exercises and do not indulge in sports like basket ball, tennis or cricket or football. Correct the walking and sitting style. Sit with your spine erect.  Prolonged bending of spine leads to pain and swelling.

Do not sleep on a spongy bed, instead use a comfortable moderately stiff bed or use a water bed. While sleeping either avoid a pillow or use a pillow that supports your head and neck comfortably. Never read by lying on your stomach in the bed, this could worsen the neck pain.

Serious accidents could cause injury to neck like nerve injury, breaking blood vessels or even paralysis. So it is always better to prevent such injury than curing it at a later stage. Always wear seat belt while driving. This will to a larger extent help in supporting your neck and back in case of any jerks and jumps. Wearing helmet while riding bikes will help protect your head and neck. Disc dislocation could also take place during accidents. Surgery is recommended in case of severe damage to nerves or spines.

Neck pains and injuries should not be taken lightly because this might be symptoms of spondylosis or osteoporosis or cancer.

You must consult a doctor if the pain persists for more than a week or the pain does not reduce even after taking pain killers or you vomit.
