People have been using the lemonade diet, also called the Master Cleanse Diet, since the 1940s .The idea of the lemonade diet is that you lose weight after first ridding your body of toxins. These toxins are supposed to be the result of an unhealthy diet and other bad life choices, such as smoking and drinking copious amounts of alcoholic.
Over the years several celebrities have used the lemonade diet while preparing for major roles in movies. The minimum amount of time it takes the lemonade diet to work is ten days. During that time the only things you will be able to consume are peppermint tea and a concoction made of out of maple syrup, cayenne pepper, lemon juice and water. Many people opt to continue drinking only the mixture after the ten days have passed.
The Recipe
The standard recipe for the lemonade diet is one glass of water, 1/6 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, 2 teaspoons of lemon juice and 2 teaspoons of maple syrup. You should know that the measurements are just a guideline. While it is important to use all the ingredients, the exact amounts can be altered to suit your individual tastes.
Breaking Your Fast
The only way the lemonade diet will work is if you are careful about how you break your fast. Don’t assume that after the ten day fasting period you will be able to start eating solid foods right away. The first day after the fast you should simply drink some citrus juices. After that you can start to eat some vegetable soups, then some really well cooked (pureed are the best) vegetables. You should be very gradual about reintroducing solid foods to your system.
Possible Side Affects
Although many people have been very happy with the results of the lemonade diet, before you start it you should be aware that there are several side affects. The side effects include intense cravings, vomiting, headaches, vomiting, irritability and fatigue.
The maximum amount of time you should fast is 40 days. After the fasting period has ended you need to wait a minimum of 90 days before you can resume the lemonade diet. You should only use the lemonade diet three times a year.
