As we mature, the dewy, fine textured skin of our youth can become but a memory. Hormonal changes and the effects of weather and pollutants over time, can leave us with skin that looks dull and lifeless, and feels rough to the touch. Skin can become dry and flaky, and the products we eagerly purchase, that claim to cure all these and more of our misfortunes, simply do not work.
The efficacy of any product will depend on two main factors: whether it hydrates the skin and helps it to retain moisture, and whether it sufficiently replenishes essential minerals and nutrients lacking in the skin.
Natural Is Best:
Skincare products that use natural plant oils, extracts and essences often fill both these requirements. The Parabens and mineral oils that non- natural skin care products employ can cause the skin to become dependent on these products, rather than making the skin healthy and resilient in its own right.
These, and other chemical and synthetic ingredients such as preservatives, colorants and fragrances can pose toxicity problems for the whole body.
Keep Skin Hydrated:
After a bath, moisturise with butter from a plant or any type of oil to lock moisture into the skin.Some good choices are Avocado Oil, Shea Butter or Cocoa Butter. All these oils contain essential nutrients for the skin that keep it moisturised and protected, and these are readily absorbed into skin that is warm from a bath.
For an intensive nourishing treatment for your delicate skin, take a tablespoon of cold pressed light plant oil, such as Rosehip, Sweet Almond or Hazelnut and add to it a drop or two of essential oil.
Particularly recommended are Lavender, Frankincense and Patchouli, all of which are highly softening and wrinkle reducing.
Mix well and massage as needed on the face, neck and décolletage.The oil should sink in easily and provide an overnight boost to assist in the rejuvenation of your skin.
Gentle exfoliation rids the skin of dead skin cells which contribute to roughness and a dull complexion. Choose a natural product or make your own with finely grounded Almonds and a little milk.By using these excellent tips, you’ll have smoother skin and a more youthful complexion for years to come.
