Useful Remedies To Treat A Common Cold At Home
When the upper section of the respiratory tract gets inflamed owing to a viral infection, this is called a common cold.
This is a condition that occurs very frequently and therefore has been given the name ‘common cold’. Another name for this sickness is acute coryza.
This sickness does not happen once in a lifetime but can recur several times in a year and last for anything between three and ten days. Usually the nose is the affected organ, but at times the ears could also get blocked. In addition, the sinuses and bronchial passages could also be affected.
A variety of symptoms for a common cold include body aches with chills, headaches, sneezing, runny nose, congestion in the nasal passages, and also a sore throat. This is not considered a serious ailment and home remedies could be applied to bring relief to the sufferer.
Useful Remedies to Treat a Common Cold at Home
Since lime is said to be a most effective treatment, a teaspoon of honey added to a glassful of lime juice and lukewarm water is a good remedy for a common cold. A hot meal of garlic soup is also an excellent remedy.
Another method is to drink a mixture of garlic oil and onion juice diluted in water a few times a day. Chop up some ginger in to small chunks. Boil them in some water, let it simmer awhile, strain and drink it hot, with half a teaspoon of sugar added in.
The congested chest and nasal passages can be relieved by taking a hot bath. Steaming is another good option to heal nasal tissues that are blocked. Two mgs of roasted asafoetida mixed with a warm glass of milk should be drunk slowly twice a day.
Using 200 grams of coriander seed and some jaggery make a paste, and then add some water. Boil and inhale the steam of this mixture around four times each day. Powder some black pepper and add it to some curd, jaggery and sugar candy. This should be taken twice a day.
Boil down 250 grams of water with seven pieces of black pepper and cubes of sugar, till it reduces to a quarter of the original quantity. Drink it hot, a couple of times a day for relief.
Mix together equal quantities of ginger and tulsi seeds and make it into a powdery fine consistency. Have this twice a day. Boil 100 grams of small pieces of ladies finger in a litre of water.
Inhalation of this steam once or twice a day relieves throat irritation and dry cough.
