What The Wedding Vows Should Say
One of the most serious things for married people is the vows they made during their wedding.
Wedding vows are the expression of your emotional and social commitment to the one you claim you love.
For those who are believers, they are also an expression of a religious commitment. For that reason, you must try to put in your true feelings in the vow you make.
Say exactly what you mean
The reality of life is that there will be difficulties and frustrations. These may affect our married lives that may falter in response to some of these things. However, we should be able to put things right if we remember the vows we made and try to live accordingly. It is therefore important to say exactly what you mean so that you can continue believing in it.
Vows are changing
Wedding vows are changing, just as the ceremonies are also changing. There are vows that are traditional, and those that are modern. There are Christian vows and others that are borrowed from other cultures and societies.
However, the simple words in the vows reflect the real reason why people marry. For your vows to be meaningful to you, you should model it in such a way that they reflect your aspirations.
In case you are not as skilled in words as some others, you can borrow from others who have learnt to express their heartfelt feelings about such matters. An example is the sonnet No 116 by Shakespeare. In this sonnet Shakespeare notes that true love does not jump from person to person. Beauty fades with time but love remains unchanged.
Those are the very ideals that people who claim they are in love should aspire to. That should be what lovers should dedicate their lives to once they join their lives together in marriage.
Those who are traditional in outlook will want to hold onto the Biblical vow. This vow makes us aware that marriage is a sacrament founded by God. God is therefore a witness to it so that those who make such vows are bound to each other for life.
Be sincere
No matter what the wedding vow says, it should be what your heart desires. You must be sincere with your vows so that they can become a source of inspiration and strength for you when the difficult days come.
