Yoga for Elders
Yoga practice started during the Vedic times in India and has reached the west. It has gained popularity because of the mind and body connection that it brings about.
Yoga is also easily performed (with adequate training). It is a practice that tries to elevate self-consciousness. It is a process of understanding yourself and using breathing techniques and body postures to stay calm, fit, and healthy.
Yoga can be practicing by people of all ages. For those older than 50, there are several techniques available to try and test out. Complicated acrobatic poses may not be suitable for this age group.
They can use other simpler poses and breathing techniques to get the benefit of Yoga. It is also highly recommended since in this day and age, people become TV addicts and pretty much lead a sedentary lifestyle. Yoga is a simple and easy way to keep the body fit and the muscles working!
A lifestyle devoid of exercise in any form can lead to aches, pains, and will put excessive stress on the spine. It will also lead to muscle and joint inflexibility. Yoga is the solution to these problems. It can be performed at your own convenience in the comfort of your house.
Yoga is an activity that requires understanding of yourself and your body. It is learnt gradually and practiced in stages until the level of expertise is attained. It is recommended that elders start with slow, gentle movements – These are similar to stretches or warming up in other fitness programs. Warming up poses may themselves take several weeks or months to master.
Yoga’s premise is to strengthen muscles and the awareness of internal organs. The breathing exercises as part of a session will help the intake of oxygen and increase endurance. This also helps to build a strong memory.
You can get the benefits of strength and endurance by cycling or walking or other exercises, But Yoga has an edge over them in that, the breathing techniques increase the intake of oxygen. A concentrated effort to breathe well will improve circulation. Yoga teaches you to breathe in a controlled fashion thus delivering superior benefits.
Yoga is a program that is safe and recommended for people of all ages.
